DCM: I'm glad to have Maureen here today to report on our General Service Conference activities. Our Forum Committee had our first meeting and it was suggested that we put together something for the GSRs to take back to their Groups to better define what the Forum is about. I would also like to remind the GSRs to bring back your Volunteer List for the Forum to next month's meeting so the committee can begin to make their plans. I am sorry to hear that Elle is stepping down from her Corrections Chair position due to an out-of-state move; however, very pleased that Terry B. has stepped up and taken on this Chair. Congratulations Terry.
ALT DCM: There were 486 hits on the website www.aaquadcities.com for the month of June. I attended the Spring Conference in Waterloo, IA on June 10, 11, and 12. The DCM Sharing Session with our Area 24 Delegate Maureen F., went very well. There were several topics shared about such as Bridging the Gap in Correctional Facilities, Donating Literature to Treatment Facilities, and Experience with Non-Alcoholics in AA Meetings. This was a great learning session for all DCM’s and Districts were able to share experience with each other. Saturday morning consisted of the Delegate’s report from the 61st General Service Conference. During the afternoon, the business meeting began. Rick from District 1 was elected as the new treasurer for Area 24. The bid was accepted for the Fall 2012 Conference to be held in Cedar Rapids, IA. I enjoyed attending this conference and the opportunity to serve District 9.
Archives: This month Pat met with the former Archives Chair and discussed materials received from elder members including Art D from Bettendorf and Carl from DeWitt. She will be receiving copies of CDs with their history for our records. I met with John B and Roger W from Central Discussion and completed a history form for the group. They were generous enough to send additional information about the group and some old copies or meeting schedules that they had from Intergroup. I attended the Spring Conference in Waterloo and spent some time with the Area Archives Rep. She was able to display a timetable of the earliest members in Iowa and was helpful with suggestions about Archives. I also had the opportunity to meet the gentleman that formatted the group history book for the city of Dubuque.
Corrections: No report.
CPC: The CPC Committee has begun contacting members of the clergy via email, offering our services and assistance in helping the still suffering alcoholic. Currently, we are sending emails to ten members of the clergy weekly and frequently checking the email account to determine this method's effectiveness. Our next scheduled meeting is on Thursday July 21st @ 7 p.m., by which time we will have been four weeks into sending out these letters and can discuss what steps to take next.
Grapevine: The Area 24 Grapevine Chair, Roger R. shared the platform with Jamie S. who is the Area 24 Literature Chair. Roger stated that the price of the AA Grapevine.org is going up in price in July 2011. Roger had the AA Traditions Checklist available in hard copy which he stated is good to use for meeting topics, it is also available online. The Internet digital copy of the Grapevine is available which saves Grapevine printing costs. Also, you may subscribe to the Grapevine magazine to be sent to you and used for Treatment/Prison meetings.
Literature: Attended the Area 24 Spring Conference in June. Most of the information discussed literature committee meeting centered on advancements in digital media apps for Kindles (which already have the Big Book App), IPAD’s and IPOD’s. More to report as these new digital apps develop.
PI: My report for July 10th.Next pi meeting is July 17thPi members are Carla, Cissi, lee and Marybeth. 3 projects for the year
Treatment: BTG presentations continue in CADS outpatient facility on the 5th Wednesday @ 8:50am and are going well. Treatment purchased a copy of the HOPE DVD for use in this facility. Literature and Treatment has ordered 4 literature displays to go into the treatment facilities’ that still need one (2 of them had one donated). They also ordered enough Treatment purchased local meeting schedules from Intergroup (5 bundles of 25 schedules each) to be stocked in the displays as well. Tim G (Literature Chair) will be in contact with a designated staff member at each facility to ensure that the displays remain well stocked. Treatment is in need of AA members from the Clinton area. I will sending a sign up sheet with the GSR for this area asking members of AA to sign up to be a “BTG Contact” and/or a volunteer that would be willing to serve in this area if we were to take BTG Presentations or Meetings into any of the Treatment settings in this area. If you know of anybody in the Clinton Area that may be willing to help out, please have them call Donna S. @ 563-650-4225. Treatment (along with PI) will each be setting up a display at a recovery walk sponsored by The Abbey Treatment Center on September 10, 2011. This display will be dropped off and picked up when the event is over (the display will not be “manned” in support of anonymity). Treatment will supply a few free pamphlets and local meeting schedules.
DeWitt: Our business meeting was held Thursday, June 30th following our regular AA meeting. Since our business meeting is held quarterly, all information I had received since April including the 2011 West Central Regional Forum, Area 24 2011 Fall Conference, Bridging the Gap Program, Area 24 Newsletter, General Service Board Report, the July issue of Illowa Messenger, March 2011 minutes of Marshalltown, 61st General Service Conference Delegate Report, and the District 9 Treasures report we made available to the group. Discussion on the May 2011 District 9 minutes was held. Mention to help GSO for the September Forum and flyers were put on the bulletin board. Also the need for help on the BTG presentation and the dates and times. We will be seeing about updating our pamphlets and putting our literature rack back into service. It was also mention that our delegate, Maureen, will be giving a talk about the General Service Conference she attended in New York in May. All were invited to attend.
Courage to Change: Our group conscience voted to have all Tuesday, 6:30 meetings, topic discussion meetings.
Big Book Study: Greetings from the Big Book study group. We are settling in to our new location back where it all started at Asbury Methodist Church at 1809 Miss. Blvd. in Bett. We changed our meeting time back to 6:30pm on Tues. evenings. We held our first mtg. last Tue and enjoyed some new folks coming to share in our journey through the Big Book. Everyone is welcome and to see you and trudge this happy road.
New Business: Motion passed to elect Terry B. as the new Corrections Chair. The Forum Committee put together a document for the GSRS to use in their home groups to help them better define what the 2011 West Central Regional Forum is about. The Area 24 Delegate, Maureen F., gave a report on the general service conference.
Next meeting will be held at Central Discussion on August 7th at 3:20PM
