DCM: Greetings from Minnesota. There is not a lot to report this month. Our first Fall Conference meeting will be held on August 4, 2009 at 6:45pm at Central Discussion Group. Please inform everyone you know that may be interested to attend this meeting. I will be attending the Area Meeting in Marshalltown August 9, 2009. It has come to my attention that the September meeting falls on Labor Day weekend. We will need to discuss whether or not the committee wants to change that. At the September meeting we will be discussing who will be attending the Fall Conference. I look forward to the election of the new PI Chairman this month. I will see you when I return.
Alt DCM: The number of hits on our website for July were 486; 273 were first time visitors. Our website is aaquadcities.com.
Literature: I have been in contact with GSO and received a memorandum highlighting the five recommendations which resulted in the following advisory actions: that the revised draft pamphlet “AA for the Native American” be approved, that a sentence encouraging AA newcomers to obtain and study the Big Book be added to the pamphlet “A Newcomer Asks,” that the “44 Questions” pamphlet be titled “Frequently Asked Questions about AA”, that a special needs recovery pamphlet be developed for members who are deaf, blind, wheel-chair bound, etc., and to review the pamphlet “Questions and Answers on Sponsorship” in order to eliminate outmoded ethnic, cultural, and vocational references. Two pamphlets were returned to the trustees’ Literature committee for further discussion and consideration, including the revised “AA Member-Medications and Other Drugs” and a possible pamphlet geared toward atheists and agnostics to be presented at the 2010 General Service Conference. I also received the AA Guidelines on Literature Committees, which we looked over today to see if there were any shared experiences we were yet to take advantage of and to consider implementing in order to let literature carry the message too.
Grapevine:
Greetings
from Grapevine!
Donations continue to be strong and we want to thank each group who has
contributed. We are discussing a possible date for a Grapevine workshop and
will be talking to the Area Chair about attending. I will be attending the
conference this coming weekend and look forward to meeting new people,
discussing new ideas, and fellowshiping. All for now.
Archives: Nothing to report on
any current activities. I would like to ask that group representatives talk to
any old timers in their groups that would be willing to do a digitally recorded
interview about the history of AA in District 9. Since there is so much
movement toward computer access I would like to make these interviews available
by transferring them to CD and possibly make them accessible online through the
AA GSO or state website as a downloadable file once those options are
available to us. The group history forms are informative, but not readily
accessible to our members and I believe this would be observed.
Please feel free to contact me or refer anyone interested in participating in
this project.
Treatment: The “Hope” DVD has been purchased for the Marc Unit and our next Bridging the Gap presentation at the MARC will be August 19th at 7pm. I will be inviting all treatment committee members to attend the presentation so that they have the knowledge and will be able to do future presentations at treatment facilities.
Intergroup Liason: No report this month.
Corrections: I had my committee meeting on July 26th at 3pm at Central Discussion. It was very informative. We made a decision to have a 6month requirement of sobriety to go into the jail meetings. Sheryl was nice enough to pick up big books and schedules from intergroup and take them to the jail. Jennifer Rice said during meetings there is no bathroom breaks. Also there should be a new orientation at the end of August. We need people for the Women’s meetings on Wednesday nights at 7 and Fridays at 9am. I will be doing the schedules in September. My email address is payn68@yahoo.com
My phone number is 563-579-6878
Bettendorf: Meetings are being well attended at the Bettendorf Group. Bettendorf Group’s Annual Picnic in the Park will be held on September 13, 2009 at the Bettendorf Bandshell in Middle Park located at 1645 23rd St. in Bettendorf. Hot dogs, hamburgers, table service and beverages provided. Please bring a dish to share, and join us. The fun starts at 11:30am
Clinton: All is well with the Clinton Group. Our Spring Fling will be June 6th 2009 at the Isaac Walton League in Clinton , IA. I will not attend the Area 24 Conference in June.
DeWitt: Meetings are going well. We have begun a Traditions meeting once a month at the Thursday 8PM meeting, the 1st Thursday of the month.
Marquette: Agenda items have been discussed. Our group has decided to send me to the Spring Conference.
Northwest: All is well. Finances are sound. Our new Alternate GSR is Wesley J.
Courage to Change Group: Terresa T. will be our new GSR.
Old Business: Moving the September District Meeting.
Park M. is elected as District 9 PI Chair.
New Business: Kate S. makes a motion to send half the District chairs to Fall Conference and other half to Spring Conference. Sending chairs to Fall and Spring Conferences will be tabled until September Meeting.
We voted and passed moving our September meeting to the 13th because of Labor Day Weekend.
Mary Beth motioned to adjourn. Davi M. seconded.
Next meeting will be held at Central Discussion on September 13th at 3:30 pm. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
